The Broadway musical Baby It’s You! will close on September 4 at the Broadhurst Theatre. The show, which opened on April 27, will have played 33 previews and 151 regular performances upon closing.
Baby It’s You! is inspired by the true story of Florence Greenberg, the woman who became the music industry's first female powerhouse after she discovered the Shirelles and created Scepter Records. Beth Leavel received the show’s only 2011 Tony nomination for her performance as Florence. The cast also includes Allan Louis, Geno Henderson and (as the Shirelles) Christina Sajous, Crystal Starr, Kyra Da Costa and Erica Ash.
Conceived by Floyd Mutrux, Baby It’s You was written by Mutrux and Colin Escott and directed by Mutrux and Sheldon Epps. Although the Broadway production received mostly negative reviews, an ad campaign aimed at Baby Boomers marketing it as “the Golden Oldies musical” helped it run through the summer.
